Johan worked as Assistant of Research at the Universiteit Antwerpen from 2001 until 2008.
In 2008 he started teaching collective labour law at the Universiteit Antwerpen and labour law at the Hogeschool-Universiteit Brussel (HUB-Ehsal).
In 2007, he did research in several universities in Europe (Geneva, Utrecht, Hannover, Strasbourg).
